Deputy Commissioner Jared Whitson Bio
Jared A. Whitson has served the Department for more than 22 years. He is currently responsible for overseeing the regulation and supervision of Texas state-chartered banks, trust companies, and foreign bank agencies and representative offices of foreign bank agencies. The Bank and Trust Supervision area is the largest division within the agency, with more than 120 employees stationed in offices in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Lubbock, and Austin.
Jared started his career with the agency as an Assistant Examiner stationed in Austin. He earned his commission in December 2008 becoming a Senior Examiner and was later promoted to Review Examiner in October 2014. In September 2023, he was promoted to Director of Bank and Trust Supervision and then to Deputy Commissioner of Bank and Trust Supervision in August 2025.
Jared graduated from Texas State University in 2002 with a BBA degree in finance. He also graduated from Southwestern Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) at Southern Methodist University in 2015. SWGSB is a three-year leadership development program for future leaders in the banking and financial services community.
